The 48th New York Film Festival opened last Friday with the premiere of David Fincher's much-anticipated The Social Network, an extraordinarily entertaining and poignant account of the founding of Facebook starring Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake.
Other highlights of the fest, which continues until October 10, include Julie Taymor's adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest (pictured), Olivier Assaysas's biography of the notorious terrorist Carlos, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Cannes-winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. The festival also showcases new films by Jean-Luc Godard, Lee Chang-dong, Mike Leigh, Clint Eastwood, and Abbas Kiarostami.
At MUBI, David Hudson collects the best coverage from around the web.
